Church History

In 1980, God spoke to District Elder J.D. Young and told him to go to Augusta, Georgia and start a church. On November 11, 1980, Apostolic Holy Temple was established on 8th and Hopkins Street. Many souls were baptized in Jesus Name and received the Holy Ghost. After worshipping at this location for six months, Apostolic Holy Temple moved to 3443 Morgan Road in Hephzibah, Georgia.

This second location was once a 7-11 store that sold bread for the flesh; however, God made it an Apostolic church, so men could receive bread for the soul, from the word of God. This assembly has been a haven for many souls. Being located near a military installation, God used His man to come here and establish a place of worship and home for those that were in the Armed Forces.

As God began to move, many improvements were made. Restrooms and a baptism pool were installed. The seating capacity was approximately 200, but the outreach of our church expanded. The Lord blessed in a marvelous way in that many people were saved and carried this Apostolic doctrine around the world through the military; witnessing of God’s blessing and His anointing at Apostolic Holy Temple. The Lord continued to bless us and we added a dining room to our church.

In 1991, a larger sanctuary was built with a seating capacity of 350, to accommodate the influx of souls. We did not leave the location because it was blessed of God. We are also blessed to have classrooms, baptismal dressing rooms, and a conference room. God has indeed fulfilled the vision he gave District Elder Young.

On January 9, 1995 District Elder John D. Young transitioned from labor to reward. On February 24, 1995 Bishop Booker T. Hayes Jr., became the Pastor of Greater Apostolic Holy Temple. Under his leadership the church mortgage was burned in 2007. Many facility upgrades have been implemented as well as the purchasing of four houses for kingdom building. Through the years, God has revealed His glory and true power by taking Greater Apostolic to higher levels that have produced healing, deliverance, and growth both spiritually and physically. Wherefore, by obtaining help from God, we continue forth this day.
